2021 Color Trends for Your Flower Garden
The Slow Flowers Society is a community of flower farmers, gardeners and floral designers, with more than 800 members throughout the US and Canada. In a recent survey, members were asked to share their predictions for the most popular flower colors in 2021. When the results came in, YELLOW was at the very top of the list. We found this surprising, as to date, yellow has never been one of our top-selling flower colors.
But it seems they may be on to something. In December, the color experts at Pantone announced that “Illuminating”, a bright and cheery yellow, was their pick for the 2021 Color of the Year.
The more we thought about it, the more we had to agree that yellow is a perfect choice. 2020 was such a dark and difficult year. It’s time for an about face. Bring on the yellow!
While Illuminating (and its partner Ultimate Gray) occupy this year’s top position, these colors were selected from a larger group of more than 20 hues that make up Pantone’s 2021 Fashion Trend Color Palettes.
Interior designers and fashion designers often incorporate these trending colors into fabrics and accessories. Though gardeners aren’t necessarily trend watchers, these color palettes can be a source of inspiration and an opportunity for us to stretch our boundaries and explore new colors and color pairings.
In addition to yellow, this year’s color trend palette features lots of cheery hues. We thought it would be fun to highlight some of these colors and the flowers that match. Maybe you’ll be inspired to add a few of them to your garden!
