New Dahlias for 2016
This year’s dahlias will be arriving in our warehouse very soon and today we’re offering a sneak peek at some of the new varieties in our 2016 assortment. For some, it’s the first time they have been available in the U.S., which means you can be among the first to grow them in your garden. These new-for-2016 varieties include:
Miracle Princess – (shown above) An early blooming decorative-type with 5″ orchid pink flowers. The stocky, 3 ft. plants are the perfect size for perennial borders and large containers. Named for the breeder’s pink-loving, princess-obsessed niece.
Penhill Watermelon – Penhill dahlias were bred in South Africa and the flowers are renown for their enormous size, unusual color combinations and twisting petals. Penhill Watermelon is a painterly blend of coral and soft pink with pale yellow highlights. It should be a fabulous cut flower.
Penhill Autumn Shades – This Penhill variety is classified as a semi-cactus. The outside petals are quilled at the tips and slightly twisted for added texture. The flowers of Autumn Shades display soft hues of peach, lemon and gold. Will mix beautifully with every color in your garden.
Catching Fire – A jazzy, red and white bi-color with great curb appeal. This decorative-type is a heavy bloomer with dozens of mid-size flowers on compact plants. The coloration varies, so every blossom is unique. A great name for a really unique flower.
Sweet Lady – An outstanding new variety from Holland, with 2-4” diameter flowers that have rounded, globe-like heads. Sweet Lady is deep rose pink with violet-blue highlights (shown above with Sweet Surprise). It should be stunning in arrangements, especially combined with deep purple dahlias like Thomas Edison or Karma Lagoon.
Crème de Cassis – This exciting new variety has dark burgundy buds that open into 4 to 6” blossoms. The two-tone petals are lavender-pink on top and burgundy below. Dark stems, too. Order early as we expect Crème de Cassis to be very popular.
For 2016, we are offering more than 100 dahlias, including several new pairs and mixes. Our complete selection is available now and it’s not too soon to reserve your favorites!
